If you do something that doesn’t have a logical explanation, then you do it because of preference.

If you do something without logical explanation…

Then you do it because of personal preference.

But if you do something because someone tells you to, and they don’t have a logical explanation, then you have superstition.

But if you do something because of someone else’s preference, with no harm coming to you, then you have superstition.

But if you do something because of someone else’s preference, and they will punish you, then you have a cult.

But if you do something because of someone else’s preference, and you will be punished by society, then you have culture.

But if you do something because of someone else’s preference, but you are only told you will be punished, then you have religion.
